EPLN Board Member Application


Thank you for your interest in El Paso Leadership Network! This application is open to all El Pasoans who are professionals or university students. You are invited to apply if you would like to take part of a network that will reshape education in El Paso, Texas. Our goal is to foster greater educational and professional opportunities for El Pasoans and invest in the sustainable future of our city.


Please note that this is an unpaid, volunteer role requiring an average of 2 hours a month. Applications close on September 1. Only selected candidates will be contacted to interview September 1-15. The first board meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 1. Meetings occur once a month during the calendar year. If selected, board members are expected to attend all meetings and are only allowed two unexcused absenses.

President

The Board President serves as the chief volunteer leader of the organization’s Board of Directors. The President leads the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and presides over all board meetings. As the primary facilitator of board operations, the President ensures that the board functions effectively, that officers carry out their responsibilities, and that the organization remains aligned with its mission and strategic goals. The President may serve as a public representative of the board and acts as a liaison between the board and executive leadership.


Vice President

The Vice President of the Board of Directors serves as a key leader and support to the Board President. The Vice President assumes the President’s responsibilities in their absence or incapacity and is expected to be fully prepared to step into the President role as needed. The Vice President also takes on duties as assigned by the Board or the President and may play a leading role in committees, strategic initiatives, or succession planning.


Secretary

The Secretary serves as the official recordkeeper of the organization and is responsible for ensuring the accurate documentation of board and committee actions. The Secretary manages the preparation, storage, and distribution of meeting minutes, oversees compliance with bylaws related to meeting notifications, and ensures organizational records are maintained appropriately. This role supports board transparency, legal compliance, and organizational accountability.


Treasurer

The Treasurer is a key member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the organization in accordance with the bylaws and legal requirements. The Treasurer ensures that the board is adequately informed of the organization’s financial position and supports the Executive Director (or relevant staff) in maintaining sound fiscal practices and reporting.


General Board Member

As a General Board Member, you play a vital role in advancing the mission, vision, and strategic goals of El Paso Leadership Network. Board Members provide governance, oversight, and support to ensure the organization is effectively managed and financially sound. While not responsible for daily operations, board members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and stewards of the nonprofit’s mission and impact.
